The Mosaic is
made of thin slices of different coloured woods and may also be
inlaid with tin and mother of pearl. Unlike much that you may
find as curious or brought back from various holiday trips we
are selling items made with real mother of pearl and not plastic.
Plastic is easy to work with and can look good but it lacks the depth
and subtlety of the real thing. Mother of pearl is fragile, and of
variable depth so and each piece needs to be carefully set into a
hollow made to fit it. Bigger pieces need more care than
smaller ones. The shaping of pieces also make some harder to make
than others, curved tops need more care than flat ones, and the
complexity of the design is has an obvious impact. Coming soon
